No Man's Land reads the world's news on oil, shipping, war, money and food in 23 regions and 16 languages, side by side. It doesn't pick a side or trust anyone's word, its own included. It shows you who is saying what, who is repeating whom, where the stories contradict each other, and who stays quiet.

Why it exists
Every outlet speaks for someone: a state, an owner, a faction, an audience, or an advertiser. Reading one country's press, in one language, shows you one story. Here the same event is laid out as Tehran, Moscow, Beijing, Riyadh, Tel Aviv, Kyiv, Washington, Delhi, Lagos and São Paulo each tell it, with every source labelled by who it speaks for.
None of it is treated as the truth. Truth is whatever survives being checked against the other side and against hard numbers.
How it works
Crawl, every 2 hours. 380 sources are read automatically (breakdown below).
Filter. Every item is scored against vocabularies for oil, shipping, military action and movements, nuclear, central banks and fiat, and crops and fertilizer, written natively in all 16 languages, so a Persian tanker story or a Korean drill report is found without being translated first.
Analyse, twice a day (07:00 and 19:00 Japan time). The relevant items are grouped into events across languages, and contradictions are hunted down. Each claim is labelled Confirmed, Likely, Contested or Unverified. The work is done by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, following a fixed public playbook.
Publish. The story board, the Observatory and this page are rebuilt after every analysis run.

The evidence ladder
This ranks how much weight a piece of evidence can carry. It is not a ranking of trust; nothing here is trusted.
Hard data with provenance. Market prices, US government oil stocks, primary documents, and imagery whose origin can be traced.
A party's own statement, counted only as evidence of what that party claims.
Reporting by any outlet, weighted by how many opposing sides corroborate it.
Relays, amplification networks and ownership blocs. Outlets repeating each other, or owned by the same group, count as one voice however many there are.
Milbloggers, Telegram channels, forums. Often first, often wrong.
Fact-checkers and self-proclaimed authority. A fact-check verdict is a claim by an interested party. One fact-checker is never used to verify another; when one matters, we go to the primary evidence it points at. Language like "the truth about", "debunked", "fake news" or "experts agree" is flagged in every language, and it lowers trust rather than raising it.
Confidence labels
ConfirmedHard data, or at least two independent sources on opposing sides.
LikelySeveral sources, but all from one side, or a neutral wire alone.
ContestedCredible sources directly disagree.
UnverifiedA single source, or only partisan channels.
The Observatory, explained
Frame mapFor each event, which competing story each region pushes ("mines hit violating ships" vs "Iran is attacking shipping"), and how loudly.
Flow and narrative riverCoverage of each event by source region over time. Surges show a push; streams that thin out show a region going quiet.
Silence gridCompares what each region covered with what its output would predict. Silence can be a choice or a gap in our sources, so both are shown.
Claim lineageHow a contested claim travelled from its origin through relays, with the counter-claims alongside.
Country fingerprintsEach region's topic emphasis, emotive language, authority claims, and track record once contradictions are resolved.
Ownership blocsWhich owners (Murdoch, Comcast, Axel Springer, Bolloré, the PRC party-state, SRMG and others) stand behind the outlets, what each bloc covers and how, and how much of an event's coverage comes from Western-owned blocs versus the rest.
Amplification networksOutlets that repeatedly copy, cite or relay each other, detected in any language. A tag is provisional until it holds on 3 separate days. Wires that everyone cites are shown as reference hubs, not members. A tag describes behaviour, not ownership or intent.

42 owner groups are mapped, 28 of them Western. Outlets under one owner are related voices, so when they agree it counts as one owner's line rather than independent corroboration. Western state-funded international broadcasters carry the same "state-funded" label as Al Jazeera or Yonhap. Ownership changes often; rows marked "check" are in flux.

Also used: the US Energy Information Administration's weekly crude, product and Strategic Petroleum Reserve stocks, and the FAO's monthly Food Price Index (cereals, vegetable oils, dairy, meat and sugar).
For money, the test is how capital markets react to a policy, not what the policy statement says: currencies, yields and equities on the day of a central-bank or government decision. For food, it's the crop and fertilizer prices and the FAO index set against claims about harvests, export bans and shortages.

Global wires & specialist trade press47 sources · English
27 sources can't be read right now. Most block automated readers, or have removed their feeds. Those countries are still covered by other outlets and by GDELT. The full list and the reason for each is below.
Reddit, GDELT and some state servers rate-limit or time out, so a region can be thin in a given run. Each report lists its blind spots.
Relevance is found with keyword vocabularies. Some on-topic stories are missed and some off-topic ones slip in. Both are logged and the vocabulary is tuned over time.
Frames are judgement calls made by the AI analyst each run. Volumes, silences, fingerprints and networks are computed mechanically from the collected items.
No ship tracking. Tanker, grain and fertilizer cargoes are followed through news and trade press only.
Fertilizer prices aren't public. Urea, potash and phosphate benchmarks are sold by private agencies, so they're followed through producer share prices, trade press and policy news (for example export quotas).
Some currencies have a second, street price. For currencies under capital controls (Iran, Argentina, Egypt, Nigeria), the market rate is followed through local press, because the official quote can differ sharply.
This project is propaganda-aware, not propaganda-proof. Read it the way it reads everyone else.
